Events:

Cool City Art Auction- March 23. Creative Alliance event at Churchills.
Profits not shared between galleries, generated per organization on first place people stop. CA should have performers outside to bring in people first.
We are the first show to open and first to close. Need to collect certificates to give away for auction. If is valued at $50, you get a free ticket. Artwork collected at Churchills. Certificates can be given to Jenny Moench. Flint Local 432 will donate merchandise.

Voices-  May 5. People can still be paired up. Should cross promote with the Flint Handmade Spring Market event that same day at the Masonic Temple.

Jenny is still doing the road trips. Planning to go to Heidelberg and the Scarab Club in Detroit. Need a sculpture to bring.

New Business:

Judy and Ron from Clio would like to present something to the City of Clio about having the Creative Alliance do murals on walls in the area.
Robert owns a law office on an alleyway that the city would like to turn into a park. A block long at Main Street both ways, the old theater building. Would be cool to have a collaboration. Nothing graphic or offensive. Freshly repainted a year ago, so has a good base.
The only qualm our artists would have, Corey said, is that materials are expensive.
We will have artists check it out and then work backwards on the next details.
Jessica would like to see that the Creative Alliance name be on the mural.
Joel Rash suggested bringing in Clio H S students and art teachers into the project so that they have stake in it.
Set Gary Flinn lose on the history of Clio to pull elements out for imagery.
Could move forward and send a request for proposals as a way to teach ourselves and get the project moving.
Maybe done or in progress by July 4th Festival.

Joel Rash, founder of the Local 432, about to reopen in the old Genesee Indian Center. Inspections started today. More later. Hope to be active in April. Meet every Saturday at 11 for an hour and a half. Sent letter from CA to the board, they were excited. They didn’t act on it because we didn’t have a space that was ready. Set up   an office last night. Board will recommend March 17 or 18 at their meeting. I am confident this will eventually be approved. Flint Club, etc. Wifi and internet, will have desks, conference room, lounge, hang out area, smaller rooms, 287 standing performance space. Booking april and may and lining up events for rest of the year.  No rental rate but we can use volunteer as much as money at this point. Get people in on six month agreements. Then we can figure out about grant writing as a whole. Do not have alcohol policy yet so don’t know how they will interact with art walk.
Getting ready to scrape and paint, the more hands, the better. Added in weeknight sessions for days that Saturdays don’t work.
Board hasn’t set access policy, still need to figure out all of those details even if CA gets space approved.
Will have business hours for anyone to access the space. After hours access is easy enough to settle. The more people in there at all times, the better.

Jessica Nickola-Plank reported on two different grants. Creative Crew 2011 is closing out. Need to finish evaluations. It is getting close to time to renew with Ruth Mott by March 30th. Jessica will need to step back from leadership. Alea moved to NYC. Blair has shown interest in running the grant. Sage Seaman is willing to take Alea’s position. On site management and booking workshop artists.

Also, S. Jean Simi Fund for the Arts awarded to the group. Were cut on builder’s license request and podcast. GFAC is asking for $275.21 of the 5,425 awarded. Five percent of the grant. Needs to be paid out and reported by May. Transportation fee should be used for van rental during Creative Crew in the Summer.

Corey proposed to membership supporting a high school student, Elli Fernandez at the Elms Gallery for payment of utility bills. Has select mutism, proposed giving a $250 grant for three to six months of rental space. Will keep check on her that she is producing, she is the youngest member of the gallery. Hopefully when the grant runs out, she can sell her own work to keep the space. Proposes one mini-grant per every six months. Corey will bring regulations and a proposal next week. Needs to be application process, guidelines and how long between response.

Announcements:

Flint Art Project will have four vendors at Pages Bookstore during Art Walk in March. $100 gift basket, earrings, painting, $25 photo session with Sarah Reed all donated. Any donation will enter people in drawing for four prizes up to $100 in value.

This friday at Churchills, Third Coast Kings. $5. Next friday, March 2, Whimsical Winter’s Night- Arlow Xan, Morseville Bridge, Shivering Bird. $5.

Kids Need Art got approval from Principle of Eisenhower to bring in artists’ Wednesday or Friday. Any age level K-6 for artists teach kids. Sessions are about an hour.

On the LIne, labor-based fundraiser for Buckham Gallery. March 3, 6 p.m. $5. Shared meal to follow and discussion about the future of arts in Flint’s labor economy. Additional $5-20.

Elms Gallery has 22 artists will open in March.

March 21′s collab night will be at the Elm’s Gallery and not at Good Beans Cafe.
