Youth Quest :

Here is a basic description of what we are looking for:

The YouthQuest After-School Program is seeking art instructors to work with kids in Grade K – 8th throughout the Flint area. Commitment can be as little as a one-time project or as extensive as 4 days/week throughout the year. Ideal instructors will teach art technique and design elements through unique and innovative projects that excite kids, provide hands-on creative thinking, problem-solving and team-building skills, and produce interesting presentations. We are looking artists of all kinds – visual, 3-D, performance (music, theater, etc.), installation and interactive media, etc. Instructors are brought on as contractors and can be paid for their services. Supplies can be purchased to meet the needs of the approved projects. We encourage unconventional projects with well-thought out display/presentation plans that can be implemented at the end of the year art show.

Interested parties can contact Kristina Johnston at kjohnston@thegrcc.org or (810) 600-1441. All art contractors will undergo a background check and vendor application before working in the classroom.

I think that covers it. Thanks!!

The Flint Creative Alliance:

Is a non-profit organization working to revitalize Flint through collective
creative action. But more than just that–we are artists, volunteers,
community outreach, and friends, all working to make this a better place
to live via our art and our passion. Without creativity, what can we
create here? Without hope, how can we truly live here? Without each
other, how can we have a community? It is our hope that by bringing
more art, more community service, and more life into Flint that it will
create an atmosphere people will want to live in and help maintain.
We are the enemies of despair and boredom.

Come visit us at
Churchills every Wednesday 7pm for our group meetings. Become involved in the local arts and the community of Flint.

Come to Good Beans Café
by the creator himself;

Corey “Bearcat” Nickola Planck, Director of Programming

By January of 2005 I had been playing music in the Flint scene regularly for five years. At this point I noticed a need for the local talent to combine efforts and make some movements forward. I decided to print up some fliers that donned the title “Musicians Alliance.” In my soul there is music in all art forms…so on the flier I called out, not only to musicians, but also to all creative types. Including visual artists, writers, performance artists, and social activists who were interested in meeting at Churchill’s on January 12th for an open forum discussing how we can proliferate our voice in this fine community. I handed out roughly 30 fliers…about 25 people showed up; five of them being musicians. The others being (you guessed it) poets, painters, actors, photographers, community organizers, social activists and other like-minded folks that wanted to make a difference. Since our talents were so diverse, we decided that the term “musician” didn’t best define us. Instead we dubbed the group “The Creative Alliance.”
Here we are almost seven years later, still meeting, still sharing,
still caring, still moving…forward. Life is good…Life is Sweet…Life
is struggle…So move yo’ feet!

Faber’s Announcements:

The Creative Alliance is proud to present its new board of directors for the term of June 2011 through June 2013:

The CA has a talk show
on FlintTalkRadio.com
Every first and third Monday at 4 PM the Creative Alliance hosts a podcast
on FlintTalkRadio.com to promote our members and friends. We might have
opportunities for you in our next show. We are also looking for more
ideas that could make the show better, more effective and fun.
You can check out our first show by going to FlintTalkRadio.com and
clicking on our icon. If you would like your event announced, a video
played on the show, a jpg of your work, or a song off your CD send it
with your information to Jennie Moench, jenny6300577@yahoo.com or go to a regular meeting at 7PM at Churchills, on any Wednesday except the third Wednesday when we meet at the Good Beans Cafe. We are also looking for guests and hosts. Sponsors are also welcome, a donation of $25 allows you to have your message read while your logo is onscreen, twice, during a show.

As the leading grassroots arts organization in Flint, we are looking
for creative ways to make our show interesting and effective. Some of
the ideas include making videos of people on the street that are funny or entertaining. If this is something you would be interested in helping with, let us know, we have cards and release forms that could be used.
We are also open and anxious to hear your ideas, remember we are your
community, your Creative Alliance, and we want to encourage an atmosphere that makes people proud to live here, in Flint.

Developing projects within The Creative Alliance

Nic Custer, Director of Development

The Creative Alliance is shifting towards more public involvement and relationships within the community. The organization has begun to focus on strengthening the potential and skill sets of its members. Through funding grant writing training or builder’s license courses and other such programs, the Creative Alliance is providing artist members with the abilities to better serve its and its members’ growing needs.

With that being said, the Creative
Alliance is working on its Community Now project.

Community Now is the housing development arm of the Creative Alliance. This group’s interests lie in creating
affordable artist live/ work space in Flint neighborhoods. Last year,
UM-Ann Arbor graduate students produced a feasibility study for Community
Now about the city’s potential to house art incubators. Since then,
members have begun to seek out the skills necessary to rehabilitate
housing stock and create an artistic presence in the communities surrounding
downtown.

Collab Nite at Good Beans Café

Jennie Moench, Director of Public Relations

Who says that a fun night out is expensive? Did you know that there
is an Open Mic and a collaborative painting happening at the Good Beans
Cafe on Grand Traverse in Flint every third Wednesday of the month,
for FREE! It starts at 7PM in the AnteRoom and usually lasts till 10PM.
If you are a poet, musician, comedian, or performer of any kind, you
can sign up at the door to try out your talent on a group of fellow
artists. While the stage is live, there is an open canvas set up on
an easel with paints that anyone can add to. If you’re not interested
in performing or painting, you can sit in the audience and enjoy. Either
way, you can’t beat free, and it’s a great way to connect with Flint
area artists.
